Braemar Gallery is nestled in the village of Springwood in the beautiful Blue Mountains World Heritage National Park. During the 1988 Bicentennial Year, Braemar Gallery opened as a local community exhibition space, however the history of the Braemar is long and interesting. James Hunter Lawson purchased sixty acres of land in Springwood and in 1892 built Braemar House as his family residence. The framed copy of the original plan for Braemar is on display in the gallery for all to view. Since then, Braemar has been used as a convalescent hospital, a boarding house, a private residence and a guesthouse until in 1974 when it was brought by BM City Council to house the local library and later the existing gallery.

GalleryBraemar Gallery has continued to grow by showcasing a high quality calendar of changing exhibitions. Over time the gallery has become known for its textile arts exhibitions, young or new artists, plus special group exhibitions and is recognized in grants received for various exhibitions held in the gallery.

Yearly exhibitions include Blue Mountains Top HSC Artworks Show, International Women’s Year, Friends of Braemar Exhibition and Blue Fringe Exhibition. A yearly exhibition is also coordinated by The Women’s Room and combined with a one day Festival on the veranda and garden.

This ongoing cultural activity contributes to an opportunity to attract an array of creative talent and committed arts practitioners in the local community and thus expands the awareness and community acknowledgment of Braemar Gallery and art in general.

With the continued collaboration between Blue Mountains City Council and Braemar Committee, plus the support from dedicated volunteers, Braemar House and Gallery continues to provide a community venue to showcase the talent and diversity of our local artists.
